KUALA LUMPUR: Gerakan has named its deputy secretary-general, Wendy Subramaniam, as its candidate for the Tanjung Piai parliamentary by-election on Nov 16.
Subramaniam, a 38-year-old lawyer, is a native of Johor, Bernama reported.
“I see this election as an opportunity for me to prove that women can be good leaders in society,” she said, following the announcement of her candidacy by party president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau Hoe Chai here, today.
“We are participating in this election to provide other options for the people,” said Lau, adding that Gerakan will use its own logo in the by-election.
The Tanjung Piai by-election is being held following the death from a heart attack of incumbent Member of Parliament Datuk Dr Md Farid Md Rafik, 42, on Sept 21.
Dr Md Farid was also Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, and a member of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).
