A PEDESTRIAN bridge connecting the former Kampung Haji Abdullah Hukum and Mid Valley City was officially opened to the public on Thursday.
The bridge, which crosses the Klang River and the Bangsar-Petaling Jaya bypass, allows commuters to walk comfortably between the Abdullah Hukum LRT Station and The Gardens Mall; as well as provides easy access to Mid Valley Megamall, KTM Komuter stations and KL Eco City.
The bridge is connected to the Gardens Mall on the first floor of its south side, near Isetan. From there, visitors can walk to Mid Valley Megamall.
The 250-metre long bridge is open from 6am to 1am daily.
Owing to poor planning and delays, the bridge has taken 20 years to materialise.
Since 1999, commuters have been unable to access Mid Valley City from the Abdullah Hukum LRT Station, which sits just across the river.
The idea for a pedestrian bridge only gained momentum after SP Setia Bhd started developing KL Eco City.
According to Hype MY, the link bridge was supposed to open last year, but this was postponed to October this year.
The delay may have been partially the result of a deadly accident in Nov 2016, when a section of the under-construction bridge collapsed, causing the deaths of two workers.
The bridge is expected to change the travel habits of many workers, shoppers and hotel guests at Mid Valley City, and provide a boost to Kelana Jaya LRT’s ridership, which stands at 330,000 daily.
Meanwhile, netizens have been excitedly sharing news of the bridge on social media, with many exulting that they no longer have to wait for 30 minutes for the KTM train to get to Mid Valley.
