Submerged bridge forces students to use railway tracks to reach school

GUA MUSANG: Students from Kampung Batu 6 here have been forced to use the railway tracks to cross the Galas River after its bridge, which is the only exit route from the village, was submerged due to heavy rainfall.

Resident Suzili Sulaiman, 49, said the water from the Galas River started flooding the bridge last night, so she had to take her children through the railway tracks to get them to school in Bandar Gua Musang.

"We have no choice – if we don't use this railway route, the children won't be able to go to school. Moreover, one of my children is preparing for the Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) examinations," she said.

She added that every year, more than 200 residents of Kampung Batu 6 are cut off from the outside world when the bridge is submerged during the monsoon season, affecting travel to school and work.

Suzili said she was relieved to see the construction of the new bridge had begun and hoped it would be completed as soon as possible.
