SEMENYIH: The century old SJK (C) Ton Fah, Beranang, has been given a new lease of life, courtesy of the Eco Majestic township.
The 108-year-old vernacular located in Kampung Bukit Kepong will move into the township, once its construction of the RM11.5 million school is completed by the end of next year.
Eco Majestic township developer, Eco World Development Group Berhad (EcoWorld Malaysia) chief executive officer Datuk Chang Khim Wah said they would contribute
RM7.5 million towards the construction of the vernacular school.
“The Education and Finance Ministries will contribute the remaining RM4 million funds needed for the school construction which is expected to be completed next year in time for the 2021 intake.
“The new site for SJK (C) Ton Fah Eco Majestic measures approximately 0.4-hectare and will be equipped with 24 classrooms and facilities including pre-school classrooms, football field, a basketball court and library,” he said at the school’s groundbreaking ceremony here today.
Established in 1910 in Beranang, the current SJK (C) Ton Fah has 138 students, majority Malays, ranging from pre-school age to Standard Six.
“With new premises, the school will be able to accommodate approximately 1,008 students and 48 pre-schoolers. The existing 138 students will also be relocated to the new site,” Chang said.
He said the groundbreaking for the century old school was another milestone for the 440.7-hectare township which has handed over 4.295 homes to date.
“The ceremony today is a culmination effort of the school administration, parent-teacher association, Ministry of Education, local authorities and EcoWorld in ensuring that the surrounding community will have access to quality education.
“Having SJK (C) Ton Fah Eco Majestic here not only adds value but brings about more activity to the entire township,” he said.
The ceremony was witnessed by Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik, accompanied by his deputy Teo Nie Ching.
