KUALA LUMPUR: The German Embassy here has condemned a Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) graduate who showed a Nazi-style salute at the university’s convocation ceremony recently.
In a social media post, the Embassy expressed shocked to learn of the incident and that they condemned any show of support for a regime responsible for mass killing.
“Considering the terrible suffering that was brought upon the world during World War II by the Nazi regime of Germany, the German Embassy unequivocally condemns any show of support for a regime responsible for Genocide."
The embassy also called upon the government as well as the university to oppose to such an act.
Recently, social media went abuzz with a picture of the graduate who showed the Nazi-style gesture at the convocation ceremony.
The picture went viral and Malaysians have since slammed the graduate’s actions.
It was understood that the picture together with a post made by the graduate on Facebook was taken down by the social media platform for violating its guidelines.
The graduate had said in his post that the salutation was to protest against what he deemed to be Jewish dominance of the world and as a sign of support for the Palestinians in Gaza.
On Nov 26, UMS expressed disappointment over the action by the graduate and that it would conduct an investigation to ensure there was no repeat of such an incident.
