KUALA LUMPUR: A popular singer in the 80s Datuk Nassier Wahab has died at University Malaya Medical Centre at 12.45 last night. He was 57.
The news on his death was informed by singer and Nassier’s close friend Zur Eda via WhatsApp to other fellow artistes.
“Innalillahiwainnailaihirojiun. I would like to sadly inform that Nassier Wahab has breathed his last at 12.45am.
“Hope everyone can recite al-Fatihah and pray for his soul to be placed among the righteous,” she texted.
Harian Metro reported that Nassier, whose famous songs include Memori Cinta Luka and Bayangan Wajah Luka, had previously undergone a surgery to remove a tumour on his left jaw on June 1.
He had been complaining of pain on his gum since five years ago but he would only take painkillers, according to his personal assistant.
“He would take the pills and the pain would go away. Sometimes it took two to three days for the pain to subside,” he said, adding that doctor had advised Nassier to undergo a surgery as the pain had been consistent but he kept postponing it.
“After a third doctor’s appointment, only then he agreed for a surgery, which took place on June 1,” added the assistant.
