Yusoff's grand uncle urges politicians to do away with sordid Machiavellianism

GEORGE TOWN: Malaysian politicians were today urged to leave behind sordid, Machiavellian politics in their thirst for power.

In making the call, Mohideen Abdul Kader, the grand uncle of Muhammad Yusoff Rawther who had made a sexual assault claim against PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Wednesday, said politicians were elected and paid by the people to serve the people.

“Under Malaysia Baru, they should leave behind rubbish, dirty politics.

“They should not be plotting, scheming and backstabbing one another all because of their fight for power.

“There are many issues plaguing the country and the world now.

“They should direct their energy to resolve these issues rather than whatever they are doing now,” he said here today.

Late on Wednesday night, Mohideen issued a statement, questioning the credibility of the sexual assault claim made by his grand nephew against Anwar.

Anwar in a statement today denied Yusoff’s allegations, saying that during the alleged offence, he was busy with the Port Dickson by-election campaign rounds as well as other functions.

Mohideen believes that his grand nephew had been manipulated by certain quarters to serve their own interests.

He also said it was puzzling that the family was unaware of the supposed incident which took place on Oct 2, last year.

On Thursday, Mohideen said the whole family was upset with the whole thing, questioning why they were dragged into such muddy politics.

He again reiterated that his grand nephew had been estranged from the family since the latter’s grandfather, former Consumers Association of Penang (CAP) president S.M. Mohamed Idris, passed away early this year.

“We have had no contact with him whatsoever.

“He (Yusoff) is a young man with inflated ego of himself, who did not even complete his university course.

“The last time we heard, he also did not have any job.

“I am not sure if he has a job now or otherwise,” he added.

Mohideen is the brother of Idris. He is now the CAP president.

Yusoff, 26, via a sworn declaration on Wednesday, had claimed that he had been sexually assaulted by Anwar during his time working as a researcher with the latter.

The assault allegedly took place at Anwar’s house.

Yusoff had alleged that there had been no action by the authorities despite furnishing a medical report confirming injuries that he allegedly sustained.
