KLANG: Three members of a family were killed, while a fourth suffered severe burns when their house at Jalan Binjai, Pandamaran, here caught fire, early today.
The dead were identified as Pua Yoke Moi, 70; Soon See Eng, 54; and Ang Kar Hian, 22, who was disabled.
The three victims were found in two separate rooms of their wooden home, which was completely gutted by the blaze.
Meanwhile, Ang Cheng Kiat, 55, suffered 50 per cent burns; while two other family members – Ang Kar Chin, 27 and Ang Kam Siew, 30 – managed to save themselves in the 3am blaze.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant operations director Hafisham Mohd Noor said that they were alerted to the fire at 3.12am, and sent 24 personnel from the Port Klang and Andalas stations to the scene.
Upon arriving at the site, the rescuers found that the house was completely ablaze, while three survivors were gathered nearby.
The firemen managed to bring the conflagration under control at about 3.30am, and douse it completely about one hour later.
“All the victims are believed to be family members, including a parent and the grandmother of the survivors.
"Another home located near the house was also burnt in the fire, but the… occupants were not home at the time of the incident," he said.
Hafisham added that three vehicles belonging to the family, which were parked in the front yard, also went up in smoke.
"The injured victim was rushed to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) Klang for treatment, while the bodies were turned over to the police.
“The JBPM Fire Forensics Unit is conducting an on-site investigation to determine the cause of the blaze,” he said.
