KOTA KINABALU: Sabah’s security, particularly in the east coast, will see assets fully mobilised for operations throughout the Christmas and New Year festive period.
Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) commander Datuk Hazani Ghazali said security forces would be on full alert and be on the lookout for opportunists as well as any other elements that could jeopardise the state security.
"I've instructed all personnel not to be complacent and to fully maximise the use of our security assets.
"Land and sea patrol operation continues as usual and we are intensifying it, with focus given on areas potentially used by criminals," he said today.
Hazani also noted that Malaysian security forces, particularly in Esscom, were always in contact with their counterpart in the Philippines and Indonesia for security update in the neighbouring countries.
He stressed that the tri-nation sea patrol operation in the Sulu Sea involving Malaysia, the Philippines and Indonesia, has been going on smoothly.
"Our cooperation remains intact and very good. Having said so, we are not taking things for granted and will remain committed in performing our duties," he added.
On whether there were security personnel and officers celebrating Christmas on duty, Hazani noted that their number in Esscom is small and that they are allowed to take leave for the festive celebration.
