PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today dropped a bombshell by releasing about 50 minutes of recorded conversations between several people including former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
MACC chief commissioner Latheefa Koya described the contents as "shocking, sordid and very disturbing."
"We can see criminal conspiracy, obstruction of juctice, compromising security and serious issues arising from abuse of powers" she told reporters.
Latheefa said MACC received the recordings sometime early this month.
"The recordings took place between Jan 5 and July 29, 2016.
"After receiving it, we have conducted our own forensic to determine its authenticity and the people involved (in the recordings)," she added.
When grilled by the reporters whether what she released to the media would impact the on-going trials involving Najib, Latheefa said she did not see how it could be so.
"We will submit the recordings to the authorities including the police as some of the offences involved the Penal Code."
