'It's Muhammad Sajjad'

KUALA LUMPUR: Controversial cosmetics entrepreneur Muhammad Sajjad Kamaruz Zaman or popularly known as Nur Sajat was found to be born and registered as male.

The information was obtained from the Federal Territory Mufti Office (PMWP) meeting with the National Registration Department (NRD) two days ago.

Federal Territories mufti Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli Mohamad al-Bakri said based on the verification information of Nur Sajat’s identity card registration obtained from NRD, the name was Muhammad Sajjad Kamaruz Zaman.

“The gender was registered as male. Further checks on birth certificate found that the entrepreneur was born as male,” he said via a Facebook status.

Dr Zulkifli said until now, there was no official medical document produced by Nur Sajat to prove that he’s a woman.

He also said PMWP was never involved in verifying Nur Sajat’s identity, which was handled by Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) in 2018.

He said confirmation of gender involved medical experts and it was under Jakim's care.

Meanwhile, Dr Zulkifli said the travel agency that managed Nur Sajat’s umrah trip must be responsible for the issue.

It is learned that Nur Sajat registered for the umrah as a man, as informed by the travel agency engaged by the entrepreneur for the trip.

He said the agency should safeguard and guide pilgrims in accordance with Islamic law and local law.

Nur Sajat, whose gender has been a subject of debate for years, recently went to Makkah for umrah.

The issue blew up on social media when videos shared by the entrepreneur showed Nur Sajat donning the telekung (female prayer attire) in Makkah.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Mujahid Yusof Rawa had expressed disappointment with Nur Sajat

over this issue.

He did not discount the possibility of having a meeting with Nur Sajat once the latter returns from performing umrah in Makkah.
