Covid-19: Malaysia bans South Koreans

KUALA LUMPUR: South Korea nationals have been temporarily barred from visiting Malaysia following a spike in the number of Covid-19 cases in the North Asian nation.

The Health Ministry in a statement today said the temporary ban also includes foreign nationals who had passed through Daegu City and Cheongdo district 14 days before arriving in Malaysia.

The temporary ban also involves those transiting through Malaysia, said Health Director-General Datuk Noor Hisham Abdullah.

“Malaysians, permanent residents and pass holders (long term social visit pass and students pass) who were in Daegu and Cheongdo district for a 14-day period prior to their arrival in Malaysia must undergo a health screening by the Malaysian Health Ministry,” he said in a statement.

South Korea reported more than 500 new cases and one death in 24 hours, bringing the national total to 1,766 cases and 13 deaths. Many of the cases are linked to a religious group in the country's south.
