Gerakan calls for all to respect King's decision to appoint Muhyiddin as PM

KUALA LUMPUR: The Yang-Dipertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah’s decision to appoint Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as Prime Minister should be respected.

Gerakan president Datuk Dominic Lau Hoe Chai said he believed that the King had come to a decision for the betterment of the rakyat and Malaysia’s stability.

“Although the decision has caused dissatisfaction among certain leaders and the people, they should not dispute it by causing disorder to the country’s stability. Moreover, an unofficial protest can worsen the political and economy of the country.

“Gerakan urges the people to give support to Muhyiddin and let him carry out duties that have been entrusted to him,” said Lau in a statement today.

Lau hoped Muhyiddin would give immediate focus to stabilise the country’s economy and that the RM20 billion Economic Stimulus Package 2020 introduced by his predecessor, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, must continue and be improved if needed.

He gave several recommendations that can be implemented, such as a deferment extension for the monthly income tax instalments for the tourism sector from six months to nine months, and for the 15 per cent discount for electricity bills for airline companies, shopping and exhibition malls to be fixed at 30 per cent.

He also recommended that the RM400 special monthly critical allowance for doctors and medical personnel be raised to RM600, and for the RM600 one-off payment to taxi drivers, tourist bus drivers, tourist guides and registered trishaw drivers to be set at RM1,000.

“The stimulus package must be implemented immediately to prevent the country’s economy from dwindling to a critical level. Therefore, the rakyat must be with the Prime Minister and weather the instability of the country’s economy,” said Lau.
