Travel ban on Denmark from Saturday

PUTRAJAYA: Following Denmark’s lockdown to halt the spread of coronavirus today, Malaysia has banned Danish nationals and travellers from there to enter the country effective Saturday.

With that, Denmark became the fourth country in the list. On Wednesday, travellers from Iran, Italy and South Korea were barred from entering Malaysia starting Friday following the spike of Covid-19 cases in the respective countries.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Special Functions) Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof said travel ban also included other nationals who are traveling from Denmark or arriving via transit countries.

“They are also prohibited from making transits at any entrance in Malaysia. Malaysians, permanent residents and those holding long term social visit pass arrived from Denmark will have to be home quarantine for 14 days.

“Malaysians are also advised to postpone their trip to Denmark,” he told a press conference after chairing the Covid-19 committee meeting, here, today.

He did not discount that more countries will be on the travel ban list, especially on countries with high fatality cases.

Meanwhile, on the tabligh gathering at Seri Petaling Mosque which has been identified as a new cluster, Redzuan said the Health Ministry is still in the process of screening.

“Looking at current situation, I urged those who had attended the gathering to cooperate to prevent community transmission.” he said.

Following this, he advised members of public not to take part in gathering of more than 250 people.

On separate matters, the minister said the Education Ministry had issued a standard operating procedure (SOP) Covid-19 Infectious Disease Prevention to schools under its administration including private, religious and international schools to assist in the handling of the outbreak.

He said the guidelines outlined measures to control the spread of the coronavirus including travel guidelines to those who need to travel countries identified as high-risk countries.
