KUALA LUMPUR: Due to the spiralling number of Covid-19 cases in the country, public universities have activated the e-learning mode for classes and postponed out-of-campus activities.
University Malaya (UM) deputy vice-chancellor (academic & international) Professor Dr Kamila Ghazali in a statement said all UM academic staff are strongly encouraged to activate e-learning for teaching and learning (T&L), using SPeCTRUM (UM's in-house e-learning platform) as well as other online T&L applications.
“I am also aware that there are situations in which T&L must be conducted in a physical setting, such as clinical work. For these situations, please ensure that all involved take the necessary Covid-19 precautions.”
Kamila said those who encounter issues can contact the information technology centre for help and students are advised to contact their lecturers for further information regarding the arrangements of the e-learning mode.
“T&L-related information will be updated from time to time, all are requested to standby and stay alert for the latest developments and announcements,” Kamila added.
Kamila also said it is compulsory to find alternative delivery methods for all community engagements and other out-of-campus T&L activities, including traveling abroad.
Meanwhile, also in a statement, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) deputy vice-chancellor (academic & international) Professor Dr M Iqbal Saripan said all lecturers and tutorials would be conducted online from Mar 16 to Mar 20 as a preventive measure.
“Students are allowed to attend the online classes from their respective hometowns.”
He added that all practical and out-of-class activities have also been postponed.
