KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has set up a task force to monitor the distribution of food aid for the people in Sabah.
State director S Karunanithy said pictures of recipients getting less than the allocated budget had been circulating in the social media.
“Sabah MACC had received such information and a task force had been formed at the state level.
“Investigations are now being made on the issue besides monitoring the procurement and distribution of the food aid as reported,” he said in a statement.
One of the images is a Sabah government form titled “Pakej Rangsangan Stimulasi Ekonomi Masyarakat Akar Umbi UPPM Negeri Sabah Tahun 2020” which has a budget of RM100.
The amount is meant for 10kg rice, 4kg sugar, four packets of cooking oil, four packages of coffee/tea, and two packs of noodles, a pack of biscuit and two cans of sardines.
Another circular from the state government dated March 27 indicated that each district office will be given RM100,000 each to pay for suppliers to distribute those food assistance to low income groups.
Karunanithy added that MACC would continue to work with the state government to ensure the assistance be delivered to the public.
