KUALA LUMPUR: The public has been told to embrace a “new normal” in their life as the war against Covid-19 is far from over.
Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said Malaysians should expect significant changes in their lifestyle and daily routine which could continue for several more months if not years.
“Basically, our lives may not be the same anymore for the next few months or years. We will be living according to the ‘new normal’.
“Whatever we used to do before, we can’t anymore. The fight is still on and we are doing well so far.
“Keep your spirits up and continue to fight. If we persevere, InsyaAllah (God Willing), we will win,” Muhyiddin said in a special televised broadcast today.
He cited an example of a common social practice such as shaking hands with friends which is no longer advisable at the moment.
Such is the situation right now as measures have been put in place to break the chain of Covid-19 transmisison.
He also reminded the people to practice good hygiene, wear face masks and to constantly wash their hands either with soap or use hand sanitisers.
“There are a lot more examples to give but, I think I don’t have to mention them all because I know all of you understand the meaning of ‘new normal’ and we must do this every day,” he said.
Earlier, the prime minister announced that the Movement Control Order (MCO), which was earlier scheduled to end on April 14, had been extended for two more weeks. It is now enforced until April 28.
With the extension, Muhyiddin said the focus was to prevent further spread of the virus.
