GEORGE TOWN: Seberang Prai residents on mainland Penang are set to enjoy their Ramadan favourites soon, thanks to Grab Malaysia.
The New Straits Times learnt that although Grab is introducing its eBazar Ramadan service for Penang, it will only cover residents in Seberang Perai.
“Similar to the Selangor Grab collaboration, this will entail the setting up of a closed, central kitchen in Seberang Perai serviced by Grab delivery riders in the area,” the NST was told.
Penang island residents, however, will have to contend with other food delivery options since it is further learnt that Majlis Perbandaran Pulau Pinang has opted on partnering with local food delivery company DeliverEat.
Sources said that the city council had rejected efforts by Grab and other players such as Food Panda on introducing a similar concept on the island.
Grab and Food Panda have about 1,000 delivery riders in Penang compared to reportedly less than 100 riders at Delivereat
It is understood that Grab's service offering will include the ability to order a complete Ramadan breaking of fast menu on its app, which will include a mix and match feature, and with the promise of delivering it within 30 minutes.
Penang will be the second state after Selangor to provide a highly-regulated and efficient eBazar Ramadan facility during the upcoming fasting season.
