KUALA LUMPUR: The government will implement ceiling prices on 12 essential items from tomorrow until April 28.
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the items included chicken, eggs, cooking oil, wheat flour, tomato, cabbage and mackerel (ikan kembung).
“The details of the scheme would be announced by the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP),” he said in a live telecast today.
He said there was sufficient supply of items and there was no need for panic buying.
“The government also listens to grouses from the people on irresponsible businesses which had raised prices of items.
“KPDNHEP will monitor the supply and prices of 25 daily essential items throughout the MCO. Among them are food items like sugar, cooking oil, rice and flour; and fresh items like chicken, vegetables, eggs, onion and fresh milk.”
Supplies and prices of hygiene products like hand sanitisers, face masks, toilet rolls, diapers were also being monitored by the ministry, he said.
He said the KPDNHEP enforcement team had carried out checks on 1,133 business premises including sundry shops (844), wholesalers (260) and factories (29).
