KUALA LUMPUR: If there is one name in Malaysia right now, recognised by everyone, regardless of age, it has to be our Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
He is no stranger to the medical fraternity and press organisations, but to the general public, the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic has made Dr Noor Hisham a hero in the eyes of the public.
Perhaps that is what drove a young girl in Terengganu to write a letter and make a special friendship band for Dr Noor Hisham.
The letter has been making its round on WhatsApp, along with a reply from the director-general himself.
Taking to Twitter, the little girl's brother confirmed the authenticity of the letter and the reply she received from Dr Noor Hisham.
In her letter, little Lara Khadijah McAfee said she made the friendship loom band to thank Dr Noor Hisham for all the work he has done for Malaysians in ensuring they stay healthy and safe during this outbreak.
The letter was written on March 19 and signed "Your friend, Lara".
Dr Noor Hisham sent the girl a reply, thanking her for the letter and bracelet, saying his granddaughter was now wearing it.
He signed the letter "From your new friend, Dr Hisham".
Dr Noor Hisham told Lara Khadijah that he was not alone in the fight against Covid-19.
"Fellow Malaysians like yourself have been a wonderful help by playing your part by staying at home. Please continue to do so, and together we can fight the virus," he told her.
Lara Khadijah's older brother, in his Twitter post which has since been Liked by Dr Noor Hisham, had said, "So my lil sister wrote a letter for Dr Hisham and sent it to his office. Then today got a whatsapp message with this pic of the officual surat, Dr Hisham punya reply to my lil sis. He is so humble and I respect him a lot with what his contributions for our country (sic)."
