Raid on undocumented migrants carried out at Masjid India, Menara City One

KUALA LUMPUR: The Immigration Department is believed to have carried out a raid on undocumented migrants at Masjid India and Menara City One here, this morning.

The surprise raid was held at around 9.30am by around 300 Immigration officers and staff who surrounded the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) area in Masjid India.

It is believed that the operation was easily managed as authorities were able to quickly detect the foreigners, since the area is currently under high surveillance due to the EMCO for Covid-19.

The media, however, was initially not able to obtain any information on the operation after being barred from covering the mass raid.

At around 12:30pm, the Immigration Department was found to be hauling out a large group, believed to be undocumented migrants, who had allegedly committed offences under the Immigration Act 959/1963.

It is learnt that the operation was focused on individuals living in Menara City One and around the Mosque area.

The operation was also assisted by the police, the army, the Health Ministry and the Malaysian Defense Forces.

The Immigration Department has yet to release any statement on the matter.
