PUTRAJAYA: Staff at KLIA, Semenyih and Bukit Jalil Immigration Detention Centres (DTI) will be subjected to Covid-19 tests.
Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the DTIs are categorised as high risk areas and sanitisation and disinfection operations will also be conducted.
"An Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) will be enforced but we do not need to quarantine them as they are already in a controlled and confined environment.
"Our focus now is not only on DTIs but also prisons and other detention centres. This is important because we realise that if there are outbreaks in detention centres, it will be exactly what we had expected in the next few days which is an increase of cases," said Dr Noor Hisham during a daily press briefing at the ministry today.
Dr Noor Hisham added that they are investigating the cause and source of the Covid-19 infection at the Bukit Jalil DTI.
He said Block A housed detainees who were not tested as they were caught before the March 18 Movement Control Order (MCO), Block B and C for those arrested during the EMCO while women and children are placed at Block D.
"We are probing the cause and the source of infection as the detainees are in a confined space, they were not mixed together and most importantly, it is under control at the moment.
"Perhaps it is possible that there was a transmission between those coming in from EMCO to Block A. We do not know but it is possible. Or it could be the staff that provide cleaning services at the DTI who carried the infection.
"So investigation is ongoing and we are hoping to find a lead for us to conclude the source of infection," he said.
