Museums to reopen on June 16

KUALA LUMPUR: Museums in the country will reopen to the public from June 16.

The Malaysia Museum Department said these include the National Museum and others under the department.

In a statement today, the department said the decision to reopen museums was made as the country entered the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) from June 10, which allows museums, among other sectors to operate.

"We are happy with this decision, and we hope it would help revive the domestic tourism industry in the country.

"Adhering to the standard operating procedure (SOP), we will conduct temperature checks upon entrance and only allow entry to those who wear face masks.

"We will also apply social distancing in museums, as well as providing hand sanitisers at the entrance," the statement said.

Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri will also be attending the opening ceremony at the National Museum on June 16 at 11am.
