PUTRAJAYA: The Health Ministry has detected a new Covid-19 cluster in Sarawak.
Its director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said to date, six confirmed cases had been identified and linked to the new cluster dubbed as the Kidurong Cluster.
The index case of this new cluster was a higher education institution student who tested positive for the virus on June 12.
"The ministry later conducted active case detection (ACD) among the family members of the students.
"The result from the ACD showed his parents and two siblings positive for Covid-19," Dr Noor Hisham said today.
He added that a friend of the student's father also tested positive for the virus.
The ministry also conducted close contact tracing of the student, comprising 231 individuals.
"A Covid-19 screening conducted on 163 of them showed that they were negative for the virus," he said.
With six new Covid-19 cases reported nationwide today, one was from the Kidurong cluster, Dr Noor Hisham informed.
