It's now easier for M'sians to leave country, and for foreigners to enter

KUALA LUMPUR: The Immigration Department has relaxed the requirements for Malaysians who wish to exit the country and foreigners holding certain visas and employment passes who want to enter Malaysia since Wednesday.

Its director-general Datuk Khairul Dzaimee Daud said foreign diplomats and foreigners who are permanent resident (PR) pass holders, as well as those holding employment pass (Category 1) and residence pass-talent (RP-T), did not need prior approval from the Immigration Department to enter the country.

The same applies to spouses and children of Malaysians who are long-term visit pass holders as well as spouses and children to the employment pass (Category 1) and residence pass-talent holders who are holders of dependence pass.

Khairul Dzaimee in a statement today said foreign domestic helpers of those holding employment pass (Category 1) and residence pass who holds foreign domestic helper pass would also be allowed to enter the country without prior approval from the department.

"The permission is only granted to those whose status of the passes is still valid.

"Foreigners in other categories as mentioned above who wished to enter Malaysia are required to submit their application via e-mail to kpi@imi.gov.my

"They are also required to enclose a copy of their passports together as well as other supporting documents together with their application," he said.

Malaysian students who wished to exit the country to start or resume their studies as well as required to sit for examination abroad also do not need prior approval from the department.

"However, they are required to present the relevant documents such as student pass or student visa or long-term visit pass or studying offer letter or letter of instruction for them to sit for the examination as well as other supporting documents to the immigration officers at the (country's) entry (and exit) points," he said.

Malaysians who returned to the country during the Movement Control Order period and wanted to leave Malaysia are also not required to obtain prior approval from the department.

The permission, however, is only applicable to Malaysians holding permanent resident pass or long-term visit pass of other countries as well as those who are working abroad.

"This group of people are only required to present proof such as work permit or other supporting documents at the immigration counter at the country's exit point," he said.

He said Malaysians who do not hold long term passes of a foreign country and need to travel abroad to attend meetings, exhibitions, seminars, business as well as for emergency purposes may request for approval to exit Malaysia.

They can submit their request enclosed with a copy of their passport and other supporting documents to the Immigration director-general via e-mail at kpi@imi.gov.my.
