19,000 Covid-free undocumented migrants sent back, says Ismail Sabri

KUALA LUMPUR: Over 19,000 undocumented migrants who tested negative for Covid-19 have been sent back to their home countries.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said among the 19,111 who were deported, 45 per cent were Indonesians.

The remaining include Bangladesh, Myanmar and other nationalities.

"The country with the highest number of undocumented migrants is Indonesia with 8,575 people, followed by Bangladesh (2,584), and Myanmar (1,890)," he said in a statement today.

Ismail said the police had conducted 68 roadblocks nationwide and checked 32,106 vehicles to prevent the entry of undocumented migrants, particularly in through "lorong tikus" (illegal routes).

"The police have detained a foreigner for an immigration offense.

"The government will take strict action on any quarters who try to enter the country's borders illegally, and the enforcement agencies will continue to tighten control at our borders." he added.
