KUALA LUMPUR: The government will form the Bumiputera Prosperity Council (MKB) which will serve as the highest platform in efforts to empower the development of Bumiputera socio-economy, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Economy) Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed.
The decision to set up the council was made in the Economic Action Council (EAC) meeting led by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today, said Mustapa.
"MKB, which will be chaired by Muhyiddin, is part of a strategic intervention framework to drive and speed up the empowerment of the Bumiputera economy. It will be materialised through efforts to increase capacity and cross-capabilities through various programmes.
"This is in line with the Shared Prosperity Vision 2030 (SPV 2030) in which the three main objectives are development for all, tackling the gap between wealth and income as well as building a nation that is united, prosperous and with integrity," said Mustapa in a statement.
Mustapa added that the EAC meeting also agreed to strengthen the roles of the Bumiputera Agenda Steering Unit (Teraju) in two aspects.
He said Teraju will function as the highest-level coordinating body by creating an integrated and comprehensive network with all stakeholders across various sectors to monitor the implementation of policies and the Bumiputera socio-economic strategic developments plans.
Teraju, he added, will enhance and improve its central Bumiputera database through the gathering of latest information, holistic and quality information to pave the way for policy planning and strategic intervention.
Established in 2011 under the Prime Minister's Department, Teraju serves as a strategic unit that plays the role in leading, driving and coordinating the Bumiputera development agenda in tandem with SPV 2030.
