9 new Covid-19 cases

KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry has registered nine new cases of Covid-19 as of noon today, bringing the tally of infections in the country to 8,985.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the new infections brought the total number of active cases to 213.

"Out of the total new cases, seven are imported and two are local transmission cases," he said in a statement today.

He said five of the imported cases were recorded in Selangor, involving Malaysians returning from India (2), Japan (1), United Arab Emirates (1), and a foreigner from Switzerland, while two others were registered in Perak involving a Malaysian from the Philippines and a foreigner from Pakistan.

While the two local cases, he said, involved a foreigner from the Bukit Tiram cluster (Selangor) and a Malaysian from the Sivagangga cluster (Kedah).

Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham said three Covid-19 patients had recovered and were discharged today, raising the cumulative number of recovered cases to 8,647 or 96.24 per cent.

He added that there were two Covid-19 cases being treated at the intensive care units, with one on ventilator support.

No new deaths were reported today and the number of Covid-19 fatalities remains 125 (1.39 per cent).
