Penang back on alert after recording first Covid-19 case in 3 months

GEORGE TOWN: Penang today confirmed one positive Covid-19 case in the state, bringing the tally in the state to 122 since the pandemic first hit.

The state has not recorded any new infection for the past 91 days, earning it the only state in Malaysia with a green state status.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow urged residents to remain calm and not resort to sharing unverified information.

"We take note of the one positive case, as announced by the state Health Department earlier today.

"We urge the people to continue to strictly abide by the standard operating procedure (SOP) set," he said today.

According to a Facebook post by the state Health Department, the one positive Covid-19 case was linked to the Sivagangga cluster in Kedah.

Since yesterday, a video footage has gone viral in social media, claiming a positive Covid-19 case in the state.

The 29-second video alleged that the patient, a medical officer, is from the Seberang Prai Selatan district.

It further alleged that the patient had just returned from Napoh.

Today, Malaysia reported 25 positive Covid-19 cases, including the one from Penang.
