KUALA TERENGGANU: The Terengganu Cultural Village, with the concept of a living museum, is the latest tourism attraction in the state.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said the village will become a one-stop centre that brings together the various types of art and cultural heritage of all regions in the state, to preserve and protect the heritage of Malay culture.
As a new tourism product, the village is expected to remind the young of the importance of their history and the origins of Malay civilisation.
"This also highlights the role of the state museum as a centre of reference for all matters related to the civilisation of Terengganu," he said.
"The village is also a platform for local artists to continue producing art works which can contribute to the economic growth of the locals through tourism activities, "he said after the launch of the village today.
Also present were State Tourism, Culture and Information Technology Committee chairman Ariffin Deraman and Terengganu State Tourism Department director Ab Rasid Jusoh.
The village is open to public today and is free to the public until September 6, after which entrance fees will be collected towards the maintenance and improvement of the village facilities.
"This is the best opportunity for all of us, especially the younger generation to experience the life of the old Malay community and it is also a must-visit venue for tourists," he added.
Ahmad Samsuri said the state government is committed to providing support and encouragement to efforts to preserve and protect the cultural heritage which can be marketed as a high value tourism product.
