Terengganu MB remains silent on reasons behind resignation as PN treasurer-general

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said he would leave it to the Perikatan Nasional (PN) leadership to decide on his resignation as PN's treasurer-general.

The Terengganu Menteri Besar, who is also the Pas vice-president, however, refused to comment on the reason behind his resignation from the post.

"I'm not ready to comment on this issue. I was informed that, at the moment, the PN leadership is handling the matter," he told reporters after attending the 5th 'Imaratul Ilmi' event at Al-Quran College in Kuala Terengganu today.

Samsuri, who is also the Kemaman member of Parliament, refused to comment when asked if he had been asked to resign from his position in the PN top leadership.

However, he dismissed claims suggesting that his resignation signalled internal conflict within the opposition pact.

"I think it is better for you to refer to and understand my previous statement, where I quoted NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

"I have also read all the writings by a few political analysts on social media. Everyone has given their own views on my resignation," he said.

Samsuri recently submitted his resignation letter to PN's management. The resignation came as a surprise as Samsuri is considered a key figure in Pas, one of the component parties of PN.

Pas deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man confirmed that Samsuri had submitted his resignation letter and that Pas would not issue any official statement on the matter.
