KUALA TERENGGANU: Terengganu Pas has no knowledge of the reasons behind the abrupt resignation of the party's vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, as the Perikatan Nasional (PN) treasurer-general, fuelling speculation that all is not well within the opposition pact.
Its commissioner Datuk Husain Awang said Terengganu Pas was not involved in Samsuri's decision to relinquish his position in the top PN leadership.
He added that Samsuri, who is also the Terengganu Menteri Besar and Kemaman Member of Parliament, does not need to refer to Terengganu Pas over his decision to step down from the post.
"I do not have any information (on Samsuri's resignation as the PN treasurer-general)," he said when contacted today.
Meanwhile, attempts by the media to get comments from Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang on the matter failed after he declined to be interviewed.
Pas recently confirmed that Samsuri has tendered his resignation as the PN treasurer-general.
Its deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said Samsuri submitted his resignation letter on Dec 11.
Since then, the party has not issued any statement explaining the reason behind Samsuri's resignation from the post.
To date, Samsuri has kept mum when asked about his resignation.
"I do not want to issue any statement... wait for a suitable time later," he said briefly in Kuantan.
Several top PN leaders were also unaware of the reason behind Samsuri's resignation from the post.
PN Wanita chief Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin was quoted as saying that she was surprised by Samsuri's resignation as the coalition's treasurer-general.
"I have no information about it, and you would need to ask (PN chairman) Tan Sri (Muhyiddin Yassin) for that," she told reporters on Thursday.
Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia was quoted yesterday urging Pas to remain calm.
He also called on all quarters in PN to refrain from 'jangan marahkan nyamuk, kelambu dibakar' (burning the tent down to kill the mosquito)."
