Return of Jamal and his towel, and he wants you to join him

KUALA LUMPUR: He's pulled quite a few stunts in the past, been relatively quiet for awhile but is staging a return, calling for water deprived folks in Selangor to join him in reigniting an old protest gimmick.

Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos in a video post, urged Selangor residents to unite, with towels on, and gather outside the state secretariat on Thursday.

Sitting on a rock beside a clear stream, the Sungai Besar Unmo Chief asked how much longer would Selangor folk have to put up with water disruptions.

"Let's gather in big numbers to demonstrate our dissatisfaction with the state government and the Menteri Besar (Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari) over their failure to provide the best water services and supply to Selangor folk.

"Come join me in your towels, tuck a toothbrush behind your ear and bring along a water scoop as a show of your objections," he said in a video posted on Facebook today.

He said the purpose of the protest was to march in solidarity with Selangor residents who were hit with a sudden water disruption due to pollution at Sg Gong in Rawang.

He said that the objective of the demonstration was for the group to gain access to the Menteri Besar's private washroom for a bath.

Jamal is replicating his 2016 solo towelled venture in front of the Selangor Secretariat Building where he made a provocative bid to enter then Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali's office for the same purpose.

After being barred from the building, Jamal threatened to go to KLCC to take a bath at the pool there.

"They (Pakatan Harapan) promised us free water. We still paid after they won, but for what?" he asked in another video today.

"I told you so.. but you yourselves said I was crazy for three, four years," he said referring to public ridicule on his previous towel stunt.

"To say serves you right is a bit too much, I feel sorry for you and myself for not being able to bathe," Jamal said adding that his home in Ampang was still waterless.

"Do you dare join me?"

Jamal also called Amirudin a "goat", asking him what was he up to in his office while people suffered without water.

"How long can the Selangor state treat its people like goats that don't need to bathe," he said in another clip by the riverside.

In 2017, Jamal also led a demonstration at the Selangor state secretariat building's front gate, in protest of the Better Beer Festival. He protested by smashing crates of beer with a sledgehammer – and leaving the mess for others to clean up.
