Charred human remains recovered in burnt car

ALOR GAJAH: Charred human remains were found in a bag in a car razed by fire at the Pulau Sebang light industrial area, here, this morning.

Berita Harian reported that Fire and Rescue Department personnel recovered the bag from the razed Honda Civic Ferio in the 7.25am incident. Firefighters later contacted police to inform them about the shocking discovery.

Melaka Criminal Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Nor Yhazid Idris said the Pulau Sebang police station was notified by the Fire and Rescue Department about the body, which was recovered from a big bag in the back seat of the car.

Policemen later checked the bag and found the charred remains of a person. Police have yet to identify the body.

Mohd Nor Yhazid said initial police investigations revealed that a man had driven the car before it allegedly broke down at the Ayer Keroh overhead bridge rest and recreational (R&R) area along the North-south Expressway, near here, on Tuesday.

"A workshop owner and worker used a tow-truck to fetch the car at about 4pm on Tuesday, and the car was then parked in front of the workshop located at the Pulau Sebang light industrial area.

"However, the car driver did not make any payment for the tow-truck service, and the workshop owner did not conduct any repairs on the car," he said, adding there was no written agreement between the workshop and car driver to repair the car.

Nor Yhazid said workers had noticed the big bag in the back seat of the car but did not suspect anything.

The body was sent to the Alor Gajah Hospital for post mortem. The police is currently tracing the car's driver.
