Toddler locks herself in car, remains calm during rescue operation

KOTA TINGGI: A man contacted authorities after his toddler locked herself in his car which he had left running while taking his son to a nearby kindergarten, here today.

District Fire and Rescue Department chief Mohd Shawaluddin Ami Nordin said it took them five minutes to arrive at the scene after the 8.22am emergency call was placed.

There were no injuries reported. The girl remained calm and did not shed a tear as rescuers worked to unlock the door, he said when contacted today.

The rescuers managed to unlock the door within a few minutes upon their arrival.

Meanwhile, district police chief Superintendent Yusof Othman said no police reports were lodged, and no further action will be taken against the toddler's father.

"The girl's father was just steps away from the vehicle when his daughter pressed the lock lever, but did not know how to unlock it," he said.

Yusof, however, reminded parents to practice extra caution when children are left alone inside their vehicle.
