KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today announced a second round of cash aid for the B40, M40 households.
Called Bantuan Prihatin Nasional 2.0 (BPN 2.0), the handout is part of the Kita Prihatin economic recovery package, aimed at helping Malaysians face the hardships brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic and the movement control order phases that had to be implemented due to the virus.
Speaking in a televised address this afternoon, the prime minister said RM7 billion has been allocated for BPN 2.0 which will benefit 10.6 million recipients.
For the B40 group, households are set to receive RM1,000 while those who are single will receive RM500.
As for the M40 group, households will receive RM600 while those who are single will receive RM300.
The payments will be made in two instalments with the first one in October and the second in Jan 2021.
Those who qualify will not have to apply for BPN 2.0 as the database used is based on the previous BPN aid.
Meanwhile, for those who did not qualify for the previous BPN aid, the government would allow them to appeal and submit a new application.
