KUALA LUMPUR: Preliminary investigations have shown that the water pollution detected at Sungai Semenyih, Selangor today originated from an industrial area located about 30km away in Negri Sembilan.
Environment and Water Minister Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, via his official Twitter account, said the exact source of the pollution is still being identified.
In a series of postings, Tuan Ibrahim also uploaded several pictures on the checks conducted by the ministry at the Sungai Semenyih water treatment plant this evening (Sunday 4).

Tuan Ibrahim said he also visited an industrial area in Nilai Utama, Negri Sembilan, believed to the be source of the pollution.
The minister added that the Threshold Odour Number (TON) reading at the Sungai Semenyih water treatment plant reached four at 4.30pm on Sunday.
Meanwhile in a separate posting, Amirudin said he had contacted Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun for a joint solution to the issue.
"The cause of the pollution was from Sungai Batang Benar in Negri Sembilan.
"I had contacted the Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar to jointly resolve the issue," said Amirudin in a posting shared on his official Facebook account.
It was reported that more than 300,000 accounts in 273 locations in Petaling, Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat and Sepang are expected to experience water service disruption after pollution was detected at Sungai Semenyih.
The incident forced Air Selangor to halt the operations at its water treatment plants in Sungai Semenyih and Bukit Tampoi.
