KUALA LUMPUR: The Semenyih Water Treatment Plant's Threshold Odour Number (Ton) has dipped to 0 – the level required to allow for the resumption of water treatment operations.
Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) said the level was registered after a sampling at the facility at 6am today.
Its corporate communications head Elina Baseri said that raw water pumps at the facility have been turned on in order to clean pipes and tanks.
"The effort to treat (water) and stabilise the plant system is expected to take 12 hours. (This must be done) before the water can be redistributed to ratepayers.
"The water will also be tested by the Health Ministry.
"The schedule for supply recovery will be announced after the treatment process is stabilised fully," she said in a statement at 8.30am here, today.
Air Selangor, however, said that the Bukit Tampoi Water Treatment Plant Ton level is still 2 as of 6am.
A Ton level of 0 has to be reached in three consecutive sampling exercises before a treatment plant is cleared to operate.
The two water treatment plants were shut down on Oct 4 after a foul-smelling pollutant was detected in Sungai Semenyih, believed to have originated from a duck farm in Negri Sembilan.
Meanwhile, Elina said that 92 tankers have been deployed to critical premises, which include schools and housing estates.
A total of 22 static tanks, 10 filing stations, 9 local service stations (PKS) and 13 public taps have been made available.
The unscheduled water supply disruption has affected 309,687 households in 274 areas in four districts: Petaling, Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat and Sepang.
