Water supply back in Hulu Selangor, Sabak Bernam

KUALA LUMPUR: Water supply in Hulu Selangor and Sabak Bernam is gradually recovering as the Sungai Bernam Water Treatment Plant (WTP) begins to resume operations after a shutdown due to cloudy waters in the river.

"Up to noon today, the Sungai Bernam WTP has commenced operations, and clean, safe treated water is being supplied in stages to consumers," Air Selangor said in a press release.

It added that water supply recovery in the affected areas had reached 6.3 per cent, with the pace of recovery depending on the location of residence and water pressure in the distribution system.

Nevertheless, the water concessionaire expected a full recovery by midnight tomorrow (Monday).

In the meantime, water tankers had been mobilised to affected areas, with priority given to critical premises, such as hospitals, clinics, dialysis centres, and funeral parlours.

Yesterday (Saturday), Air Selangor announced a temporary shutdown of the Sungai Bernam WTP following the high turbidity of raw water caused by a water surge in Sungai Bernam earlier that day.

Since then, it had reported a gradual restoration of the plant, with water distribution resuming once the reservoir was filled and the water could meet treated water quality standards.
