KUALA LUMPUR: All educational institutions including schools, kindergartens, vocational colleges and teacher's training institutes will be closed in Sabah, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya in tandem with the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) in the states and areas.
The Education Ministry, in a statement tonight, said educational institutions in Sabah will close from Oct 13 to 26 while Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya from Oct 14 to 27.
"This is following and announcement by the Defence Minister today on the implementation of the CMCO for the whole of Sabah starting Oct 13, and the whole of Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya starting Oct 14."
The move, said the Education Ministry, is expected to affect approximately 1.7 million students and 2,797 institutions in the affected areas.
This includes 1,336 institutions with 511,349 students in Sabah; 1,088 institutions with 935,984 students in Selangor; 344 institutions and 254,639 students in Kuala Lumpur; and 29 institutions with 31,917 students in Putrajaya.
"This closure will also involve educational institutions under the ministry with hostels.
"Therefore, parents or guardians can bring students in hostels home. Students who are waiting for their parents or choose to remain at the hostels during the closure will be under the supervision of wardens.
"Their meals throughout the period will be cared for by the respective schools," the statement read.
Parents and guardians would need permission from schools to fetch their children from hostels, said the ministry, adding that the school management would issue these letters to the parents or guardians.
"This letter would serve as a reference to the authorities should they need to travel interstate to collect their students."
As for students who need to sit for scheduled international exams during the CMCO, they too would need to obtain a letter from their respective schools to attend exams.
"Teaching and learning (PdP) activities during school closure must also be given attention.
"Therefore, the management of these educational institutions are directed to ensure that teachers or lecturers, as well as students conduct PdP at home.
"Teaching and home-study manuals can be downloaded from the ministry's official website at www.moe.gov.my."
