Proton employee positive for Covid-19

KUALA LUMPUR: A Perusahaan Otomobil Nasional Sdn Bhd (Proton) employee tested positive for Covid-19 yesterday (Oct 14).

In a statement today, Proton said the employee, who is from the research and development department in Shah Alam, was immediately put under the care of a government facility.

"The company has been strictly adhering to the protocols issued by the authorities and immediately put in place its mitigation plans to prevent further spread.

"Contact tracing has begun and all employees from the respective departments have been asked to stay away from the office and to observe self quarantine," said Proton, adding that the company started disinfecting its premises.

It also said when the employee was working, the person did not have any contact with outsiders, thus there was less concern about direct exposure to clients.

Proton assured its customers that it would continue to strictly follow all the guidelines and procedures laid out by the authorities as what it has been doing from the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Proton is keeping a close eye on the situation before deciding on the next course of action, it said.

"The safety of all Proton staff, customers and Malaysians is of utmost importance to the company and will be our main priority," the company added.
