KUALA LUMPUR: Police are in the midst of tracking down 400 residents of Medan 88 Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi who left the area prior to it being placed under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO).
The residents, who did not complete their Covid-19 screening, are believed to have been taken out of the area by their employers.
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said some of those missing from the area are workers who were whisked away by their employers, shortly before the EMCO went into effect yesterday.
He said police are currently tracking down the workers as well as the employers.
"This was discussed at the National Security Council special meeting today and we agreed on this action.
"This was what the police did when residents of the Selangor Mansion fled the area when it was placed under lockdown," he said.
"We were informed that the employers (of residents of Medan 88) used buses to transport their staff from the area. The police will be tracking the employers to find the staff.
"Police will take action against not only those who fled the area, but also their employers," he said.
Earlier today, the Sepang Disaster Management Committee sought help from the police to track down about 400 residents from Medan 88 Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi who failed to turn up for the Covid-19 screening test.
Committee chairman Mohamad Zain A Hamid said information on the missing residents was obtained from neighbours and friends after police had cordoned off the area at 6pm on Nov 10.
He said the committee decided to change tactics and cordon off the area before the EMCO was announced to prevent residents from running away.
As of Nov 9, Medan 88 reported 43 Covid-19 positive cases.
The EMCO, which was implemented yesterday, involves 800 residents, 88 shop lots and 284 premises.
