KUALA LUMPUR: The government is studying a proposal to allow interstate or inter-district travel between green zones in states under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakub said suggestions from the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry will be refined and further discussed.
"We still need to discuss in detail the standard operating procedures (SOP) for this proposal, such as how people from green zones will move interstate to other green zones.
"For instance, if someone from Sabak Bernam in Selangor, which is a green zone, wants to travel to Langkawi, which is another green zone.
"Perhaps the police can issue a letter, which proves that they are indeed coming from Sabak Bernam and not Klang, for example," he said at a press conference today.
Ismail Sabri said the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry has been instructed to work with other relevant ministries and agencies such as the Health Ministry, Transport Ministry, and the National Security Council to come up with a more detailed proposal, before presenting it at the meeting.
"We will wait two or three days before the CMCO is scheduled to end, and we'll see if the proposal from the Tourism Ministry will be accepted."
Ismail Sabri also said teachers based outside their hometowns might be allowed to apply for a police letter to return home during the year-end school holidays.
He said he will discuss the matter with the Education Ministry on procedures involved with the police.
On daily arrests, Ismail Sabri said police detained 463 people for flouting CMCO SOPs yesterday.
He said 427 were slapped with compounds, while 36 others were remanded.
The bulk of the arrests were due to failure to observe physical distancing (173 cases).
"The police also arrested 67 people for not wearing a face mask, 31 for inter-district travel without permission, and 50 for other offences.
