KUALA LUMPUR: "Please forgive me and 'halalkan makan minum' (asking for food and drink all this while to be given willingly)."
These were the words uttered by a 55-year-old mother to her family before she went into an ambulance to take her to the Sungai Buloh Hospital after she was tested positive for Covid-19 recently.
These words have haunted her children since.
Jainap Abdullah was told that she was tested positive for the coronavirus on Thursday and was taken to the hospital the next day.
The video of the moment Jainap was about to leave her home and walking towards the waiting ambulance has gone viral.
Her daughter Madiana Misrol, 33, had posted the video for her private collection and was surprised when it had caught the netizens' attention and went viral.
"Everyone is worried about mum who is now warded at the hospital and we are waiting for our own test results which is expected to be known soon," she said when contacted.
Madiana, who is residing at Kampung Sungai Yu in Kuala Selangor, said everyone was surprised to learn that her mum had been infected with Covid-19.
"Of course we are shocked because mum spends most of her time at home except on the days she has to go to the dialysis centre. She went to the centre on Dec 1 and the following day she was screened (for the virus).
"Last Thursday, mum went to the dialysis centre as usual and later in the afternoon she received a call from the Health Ministry informing her that the test came back positive.
"The following day the ambulance came to the house to take mum to the hospital," she said.
Madiana said her mum had been warded before due to diabetes and kidney issues and her youngest sister Nurulamiza would accompany and care for their mum.
"But now mum will be alone (in the ward). We are worried since she has underlying illnesses and her sight is also poor.
"I feel better when mum called and assured me that she is being well taken care of by the doctors and nurses at the ward,"Madiana said, adding that she and other family members were placed under home quarantine once they had done the swab test.
She also said many had given words of encouragement to mum and her family, wishing them well and speedy recovery.
"But we do get comments questioning my mum's action for leaving the house to have been infected by the virus about two weeks ago, which is untrue.
"No one wants to be sick and anyone can be infected with Covid-19, despite taking precautionary measures.
"I urge those out there to refrain from criticising the Covid-19 patients. Instead, they should motivate the patients so that they have the strength to face their ordeal," Madiana added.
