KUALA LUMPUR: The Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) for Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Sabah and several areas in other states has been extended by two weeks to Jan 14, in view of a rise in Covid-19 cases nationwide.
The CMCO, which was to end on Dec 31, was agreed to by the government today, said Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
Selangor has so far recorded 29,272 positive cases since the pandemic struck, including 8,194 cases from Dec 14 to Dec 27, he added.
"All nine districts in Selangor have become red zones. In the past, there was Sabak Bernam (that was a green zone), but now, cases are on the rise there. The government has decided to extend the CMCO in the entire state.
"In Kuala Lumpur, cumulatively until Dec 27, there were 12,494 positive cases. In the last 14 days, there were 4,379 new cases.
"The Health Ministry also confirmed that there has been a significant spike in infections in Kuala Lumpur, and the emergence of several new clusters.
"Therefore, the National Security Council (NSC) decided that the CMCO in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur would be extended from Jan 1 to Jan 14, 2021," he said.
Sabah, Ismail Sabri said, recorded 3,243 new Covid-19 cases in the last two weeks, bringing the infection tally to 36,074 as of Dec 27.
The ministry, he added, also noted an increase of positive cases in the state.
"On the advice of the ministry, the government has agreed that the CMCO be enforced throughout Sabah from Jan 1 to Jan 14, 2021," he said.
Meanwhile, in Penang, the CMCO at Mukim 12, Barat Daya and Mukim 13, Timur Laut, which was to end on Dec 31, would be extended until Jan 14.
In Perak, the EMCO enforced at the Langkap Immigration Detention Depot and the staff quarters would be extended until Jan 14 after 597 positive cases were recorded following tests on 1,132 individuals.
In Kelantan, the EMCO at Madrasah Daril Naim, Padang Halban in the Peringat sub-district in Kota Baru would be extended until Jan 11.
"The ministry reported a drastic rise in positive cases here. Up until Dec 25, 99 tests were conducted, where 29 were confirmed to have been infected; while 69 samples are still awaiting results," said Ismail Sabri.
In Negri Sembilan, the CMCO in the Seremban district would be extended to Jan 14 as the city has recorded 861 positive cases, with many active clusters.
The CMCO would also be extended in the Johor Baru and Batu Pahat districts until Jan 14.
"The ministry confirmed a spike in cases in Johor Bhru from Dec 26, and in the past two weeks, there were 756 active cases. In Batu Pahat, 151 cases were recorded in the span of 14 days," said Ismail Sabri.
The EMCO at the Kluang Prison and its staff quarters have also been extended to Jan 14.
This was following the detection of 446 Covid-19 cases among detainees and prisons staff from 1,974 tests conducted by the ministry.
Ismail Sabri said the EMCO at Kampung Paginatan and Kampung Maringkan in Ranau, Sabah would be extended until Jan 11.
He said this was following reports by Sabah's National Security Council of a rise in cases at the localities, where 89 positive cases were recorded.
"The enforcement of the EMCO would enable a mass targeted screening to be conducted on 865 residents at these two villages," he said.
