Sungai Udang Prison placed under EMCO after 113 contract Covid-19

KUALA LUMPUR: The Sungai Udang Prison and its staff quarters will be placed under an Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) from Feb 3 until Feb 16, following a spike in Covid-19 cases in the area.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said out of 339 people screened, 113 tested positive for the virus as of Jan 31.

These include 79 inmates, 22 staff and 12 family members.

"Based on the advice of and risk assessment by the Health Ministry, the government today has agreed to implement the EMCO at the Sungai Udang Prison and staff quarters.

"The EMCO is to facilitate the Health Ministry's targeted screening of inmates, staff and close contacts to control the spread within the community," he said in a statement today.

Ismail Sabri added that the standard operating procedures for this EMCO remain the same as for other areas under the same order, with no movement in or out of the prison facility and no family visits.
