KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's largest homegrown halal retailer and wholesaler, Mydin Mohamed Holdings Berhad (Mydin) has offered its branches to be used as Covid-19 vaccination centres.
In a statement today, Mydin said its 67 branches nationwide can provide convenience and accessibility to vaccine recipients due to their strategic locations.
"Malaysia will be receiving Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine and plans to begin its first phase of immunisation by the end of February 2021.
"Mydin is ready to work with the Health Ministry to identify suitable locations as vaccination centres.
"Malaysia has a population of close to 33 million people and will face possible challenges in ensuring adequate and suitable sourcing of vaccination centres.
"Mydin currently operates 27 malls nationwide including Sabah and Sarawak with relatively large areas to provide convenience and comfort spaces for the vaccine recipients," read the statement.
Mydin's managing director Datuk Dr Ameer Ali Mydin said this gesture is the company's small social responsibility contribution to help the frontliners who have been working tirelessly to curb and fight the Covid-19 pandemic.
"In the US, Walmart Supermarkets are chosen to be vaccination centres because of its ability to accommodate large capacity.
"As a local retailer, we feel it is time to step up and serve the nationhood with this supporting effort.
"We are always available for discussion with the Health Ministry to fulfil and align with the their requirements," he said, urging all Malaysians and foreign workers to cooperate with health workers and come forward to receive the free vaccination.
