253 arrested for breaching SOP

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 253 individuals were arrested by the police yesterday for flouting the standard operating procedures (SOP) of the Movement Control Order (MCO).

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob in a statement today said failure to record customers' information topped the list of offences yesterday, with 75 individuals nabbed.

Other offences were not wearing facemask (61), being involved in gambling activities (52), inter-state/inter-district travelling without permission (37), not observing physical distancing (21), operating beyond permitted hours/without permission (6) and not carrying identity document (1).

He added from the total, 231 offenders were slapped with compounds while the remaining 22 were remanded.

Ismail Sabri said the compliance operation taskforce led by the police conducted 72,547 checks nationwide yesterday.

3,483 compliance teams inspected 6,119 restaurants, supermarkets (4,607), banks (4,357), hawker stalls (2,502), wet/agro-markets (2,140), factories (1,664) and government offices (964).

Also checked were 3,661 places of worship, recreational places (1,682), land transport terminals (1,290), water transport terminals (278) and air transport terminals (137).

The senior defence minister said six illegal immigrants were nabbed and seven land vehicles seized in Ops Benteng yesterday, adding six illegal immigrants were deported in two operations.

He said a total of 502 roadblocks were mounted nationwide by the police, armed forces, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, Malaysian Border Security Agency and other security agencies.

On mandatory quarantine, he said 625 individuals who arrived at international arrival entry points yesterday were now undergoing the mandatory quarantine.

Meanwhile, he added, a total of 15,997 foreign workers underwent mandatory screenings yesterday, with 37 testing positive for Covid-19.

A total of 474,916 foreign workers have been tested for Covid-19 so far, with test results for 15,960 returning positive.
