Business owners biggest culprits yesterday for MCO violations

KUALA LUMPUR: Failure to provide registration equipment at premises tops the list of 269 violations of the Movement Control Order's (MCO) standard operating procedures (SOP) yesterday.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the breakdown of the violations saw 85 such violations, followed by failure to observe physical distancing (66), not wearing face masks (65), interstate travel without approval (24), activities at entertainment outlets (14) and others (15).

He said a total of 251 were slapped with compounds while 18 were remanded.

On the compliance operation task force, Ismail Sabri said police held 63,556 inspections nationwide.

For Op Benteng, he said 29 illegal immigrants were nabbed.

"During the operation, the authorities detected 79 boats and four land vehicles via 11 surveillance activities," he said.

He said 586 individuals arrived at international entry points yesterday and all were ordered to undergo quarantine.

On sanitisation operations, Ismail Sabri said 72 exercises were held yesterday nationwide involving 22 red zones, six orange zones, nine yellow zones, and three green zones.

He said the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry had conducted 652 daily inspections on 11 essential goods at retailers (458), wholesalers (168) and manufacturers (26).

"The ministry also held 2,114 special inspections on SOP compliance yesterday. From the total, 2,108 premises complied with the SOP, but three were slapped with compounds and three received warnings."
