KUALA LUMPUR: The number of people arrested by the police for violating the Movement Control Order's standard operating procedures (SOP) continues to record a downward trend.
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said 38 individuals were detained yesterday for violating the SOP, with 30 issued compounds and eight remanded.
He said in a statement 17 business operators did not provide proper equipment or entry logs for patrons to record their details, while other offences yesterday were interstate travel without permission (12), failure to wear face masks (seven), operating beyond permitted hours (one) and no physical distancing (one).
The MCO Operation Task Force headed by the police, said Ismail Sabri, carried out 65,159 inspections nationwide on SOP compliance.
He added that a total of 3,592 compliance teams made up of 15,561 personnel conducted checks at 4,544 supermarkets, 5,674 restaurants, 3,992 hawkers as well as 2,743 factories, and 968 government offices.
He said the National Task Force in charge of leading the integrated Op Benteng arrested 27 illegal immigrants and seized 11 land vehicles on the same day.
A total of 266 Op Benteng and Op Penawar roadblocks were mounted nationwide by the police, Malaysian Border Security Agency (Aksem) and the armed forces.
He said 568 individuals arrived at the country's international entry points yesterday and were ordered to undergo quarantine.
They were subsequently placed under quarantine at 78 hotels and 11 facilities nationwide.
Ismail Sabri added that 74 sanitisation operations were carried out yesterday throughout the country involving 19 red zones, five orange zones, 11 yellow zones, and two green zones.
He said the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) had inspected 22 construction sites on Monday, with all of them adhering to the SOPs.
"To date, CIDB enforcement teams carried out 16,297 inspections involving 9,223 construction sites nationwide."
Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said as of March 22, police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission have opened 289 investigation papers on Covid-19 fake news.
"Of the total, 115 cases are still under investigation, 51 cases had been charged in court and 12 cases were issued warning notices.
"For the cases that had been brought to the court, 30 were found guilty, one was acquitted, and the remaining cases are still on trial," he said.
